AI-generated ad creative: what actually changed, and what didn't
Generation speed for ad creative has improved enormously. The bottleneck has moved, not disappeared.
AI tools have genuinely cut the time to produce a first-draft ad variant from hours to seconds. That's a real change in production capacity, and it matters for testing volume — more variants can be tested in the same media budget window.
What hasn't changed is the bottleneck further up the chain: knowing which audience, which message, and which funnel stage a given creative variant is actually meant to serve. Generating fifty versions of an ad that's targeting the wrong stage of the funnel produces fifty ads that don't convert, just faster than before.
The practical shift for most accounts is using generation speed to test message and format variation within a strategy that's already been decided — not to skip the strategy step because generating creative got cheap. Volume without a hypothesis is still just noise, produced quickly.
Platform policy on AI-generated and AI-assisted advertising content is also evolving, particularly around disclosure for certain formats. Any AI-assisted creative workflow should be checked against current platform policy before scaling spend behind it.
